Note by Sonny Maramis Mingkid, Resident of the Special Capital Region of Greater Jakarta
The establishment and presence of the FIFA Office in the Capital City of Nusantara (IKN), situated within the sovereign territory of the Republic of Indonesia, represents an important milestone in strengthening Indonesia’s role within the global football community, as this international institution not only functions as an administrative and coordination center for FIFA programs and activities across Indonesia and the broader Southeast Asian region, but also symbolizes the growing partnership between the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the Government of the Republic of Indonesia, national football governing bodies, regional associations, and the international sports community in advancing the development of football in a professional, transparent, and globally integrated manner; furthermore, its strategic location in Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN)—Indonesia’s new capital city envisioned as a modern, sustainable, and internationally connected hub of governance, innovation, and development—reflects the forward-looking commitment of Indonesia to align national sports development with global standards, particularly in strengthening youth football development programs, enhancing football infrastructure, promoting education in sports management and governance, supporting international competitions and collaborative initiatives, and encouraging the principles of fair play, inclusivity, and integrity within the sport; therefore, the presence of the FIFA Office in IKN also serves as a bridge that connects international football institutions with the vibrant and passionate football culture of Indonesia, a nation with millions of devoted supporters and a rapidly developing football ecosystem, while reinforcing Indonesia’s determination to contribute constructively to the advancement of football worldwide, strengthen cooperation with regional and international football organizations, nurture emerging talents from across the Indonesian archipelago, and promote football not only as a competitive sport but also as a powerful instrument for unity, diplomacy, youth empowerment, social development, and cultural exchange within the territory of the Republic of Indonesia and across the global football community.
